Welcome to Washington! And Williamsburg!
The group arrived into Washington's Dulles Airport at lunchtime, barely showing any signs of tiredness after their very early start.
After meeting tour leader Declan at the airport it was straight into the sightseeing program.
We loaded the van with the group's luggage, then headed into the heart of Washington DC, crossing over the Potomac River & passing iconic sights like the Lincoln Memorial as we made our way to our first stop - the United States Capitol.
The students & chaperones made a visit to the Capitol that included a movie & a guided tour to some of the buildings most famous public areas, including the vast Rotunda under the dome.
Back onboard the van it was just a drove the short distance to the National Archives where the highlights of any visit are the'Charters of Freedom' - the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, & the Bill of Rights!
By this time it everyone was hungry so we departed DC & made at stop in Pentagon City, across the Potomac, for a food court dinner at Pentagon City Mall. As well as feeding hungry stomachs we also managed to avoid most of the notorious DC traffic.
We departed Pentagon City at 7:10pm & began the longest drive of our tour, the 2.5 hour drive south to Williamsburg, Virginia. With traffic mostly light we made excellent time & arrived at the Woodlands Hotel at 9:20pm where the group checked-in for a 3 night stay.
Time now for a good night's rest before a full day of exploring Colonial Williamsburg on foot tomorrow.
